Our hearts go out to the family, friends and loved ones of the young Dryden man whose life was cut short in a construction site accident in Imlay City last Thursday.
The devastating situation once again shines a spotlight on our firefighters and first responders, who once again demonstrated their dedication and professionalism in the face of tragedy.
Within minutes of receiving the 911 call that there was an accident at a construction site on Almont Avenue, Imlay City Police and Firefighters rushed to the scene and used all of their skills in an attempt to rescue a man who’d been trapped in a trench. The first responders, along with Imlay City DPW employees, grabbed shovels and dug by hand in an attempt to rescue the victim. Unfortunately, they were unable to do so.
The harrowing scene and stressful conditions most certainly must take their toll on these individuals. This is the second time our brave first responders have had to deal with fatality in the past several months. As always, they put their uniforms back on, and put their best foot forward again to conquer another day.
We offer heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family, and to all who have been affected by Thursday’s ordeal. And we acknowledge the efforts of those who rushed to the scene and gave their all in hopes of a better outcome.
