LAPEER COUNTY — The Imlay City Road resurfacing projects is nearing completion.
If the weather cooperated, the contractor was due to start laying the final lift of asphalt yesterday, September 3.
Destain Gingell of the Lapeer County Road Commission said that process will take a couple of days, followed by several days’ work to place a final layer of aggregate on the shoulders. Pavement markings are the last task.

A hydro seeding crew works along Imlay City Road in Imlay Township on Thursday morning. According to the Lapeer County Road Commission, the contractor has plans to start applying the final lift of asphalt this week.
Last week, crews were finishing up work on the shoulders and ditches.
The roadway, between Dorrow and Cade roads in Imlay Township, has been open to local traffic only since mid-July.
Ace-Saginaw Paving Co. is the project’s primary contractor.
Work on Newark Road, including a portion in Attica Township, is also progressing.
“The contractor has been replacing cross tubes and they’ll start ditching once cross tube replacement is complete,” Gingell said, noting that a date has yet to be determined when they’ll start crushing the existing roadway.
In sections, Newark will be renovated from Clark Rd. in Lapeer Township to Lake Pleasant Road in Attica Township.
