David Schipono, age 69, of Imlay City, MI, died Friday, August 23, 2019 at Belmar Oakland Memory Care in Troy, MI. David Allen Schipono was born March 27, 1950 in Highland Park, MI. He was the son of the late Lewis Phillip and the late Dolores Marie (Elliott) Schipono. The Schipono family moved to Imlay City
from Warren when David was about 17 years old. David was a graduate of Imlay City High School, Class of 1968; and he spent one year at MSU. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971. Dave married Diane Marie Rankin on November 4, 1972 in Imlay City, MI.
David worked in sales and as an estimator with his parents and sister at Village Barn Carpet Store in Imlay City for 40-plus years. David and Diane moved to California for a couple of years where he worked as a flooring sales contractor until they moved back to the Imlay City area.
Dave retired from Village Barn Carpet Store in 2015. Dave loved his family. He enjoyed playing golf. He was a former member of the Board of the Tri-County Bank, the Imlay Township Planning Commission and Sacred Heart Catholic Church Council.
Dave is survived by his wife, Diane (Rankin) Schipono; daughters, Celeste (Wesley) Coller of Pasadena, CA and Janeen (Jason) Day of Venice, FL; son, Zachary Schipono of Long Beach, CA; his sister, Candice “Candy” (Floyd) Madrazo of Imlay City, MI; his mother-in-law, Betty Rankin of Imlay City, MI; and grandchildren, Elijah Day, Judah Day and Elliott “Ellie” Coller. David was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Dory Schipono; father-in-law, Ted Rankin; and nephew, Stacy Madrazo.
A Memorial Mass was held Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 700 Maple Vista, Imlay City, MI. Reverend Fr. Noel Cornelio, Pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiated. Entombment of David’s cremated remains will take place at Imlay Township Cemetery at a later date.
