John Robert Ladas, 94, of Capac, departed this earth on August 5, 2019, at the MediLodge of Yale.
He was born in Detroit, March 3, 1925, the son of the late Louis and Marie (Calu) Ladas.
His marriage to Irene Powell was September 2, 1961, at Joan of Arc Catholic Church, St. Clair Shores. The couple moved to Mussey Township from Clinton Township in June of 1990. Irene passed away March 20, 1993.
John graduated high school in June of 1943. He was immediately drafted and served his country with the Unites States Army in Germany during World War II from 1943 to 1945. He continued his service with the U.S. Army Reserves and the State of Michigan reserves unit and had obtained the rank of Lt. Colonel.
He was a parishioner of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Capac, where he served on the church council for two years when he helped save the church organ from being sold. He was an usher for two years and was the church committee chairman to visit parishioners at assisted living homes and private residences. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1948, then was a government employee with security work for the U.S. Federal Government for 25 years before his retirement in 1975. In 1952, John worked for the secret service as an agent for President Truman.
Surviving are two granddaughters, Erika Ladas of Capac and Amber (Anthony Gasiewski) Ladas of Macomb; grandson, John Jr. of Capac; two great-grandchildren Mason and Hazel Suydam; daughter-in-law, Kathy Ladas of Capac; companion, Peggy Land; two step-children, Carol (Gary) Spragg of St. Clair and Richard Cushing of Clinton Township; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He is preceded in death by a son, John (2012) and a step-daughter, Linda McTighe (2019).
The family honors the memory of John and invites you to visit and share memories Wednesday, August 7, 2019, from 3-7 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday with 10 a.m. visiting. Rev. Lisa Clark, pastor of Capac United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Evangelical Cemetery, Mussey Township.
