Stephen M. Lomakoski, age 93, a lifelong resident of Romeo, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2019 at his home. Steve was born March 26, 1926 in Detroit, the son of Stefan and Jozefa (Jazumbek) Lomakoski. After graduating from Romeo High School in 1944, Steve enlisted in the Air Force where he served as a tail gunner on a Flying Fortress (B-17) in the Philippines. After serving, he married Evelyn Rumball at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Orion. Steve attended U of M, then transferred to Wayne State where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. After graduation, he started work as an engineer at Parkdale Corp. in Rochester, then worked for V.L. Graf Manufacturing. In 1957 he started Hydraulic Tubes & Fittings, INC. He moved the company to Imlay City, then to the old Hurd Lock building in Almont until he built his own building just north of Almont. He worked there until 2004, when he started Hydraulic Tubes & Fittings, LLC in Lapeer. He was working there until June 7, 2019. Steve belonged to the Berville VFW and St. Clement Catholic Church. He enjoyed tending to his yard, landscaping and gardening, watching the Detroit Lions, but mostly just having a beer with his many friends.
Steve is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Diana (Bryan) Nelson of Memphis, son-in-law Ted Czajka of Romeo, Linda Lomakoski of Washington Twp., Stephanie Lomakoski (Eric Most) of Romeo and Stephen Lomakoski (Richard McMains) of Milford, MI. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Steve was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Czajka; along with his siblings, Janina, Alex, and Henry.
Funeral services took place on Friday, June 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church of Romeo with burial at the Romeo Cemetery.
A Rosary took place at visitation at the Henry M. Malburg Funeral Home, Romeo. MI.
