Leona Grace Opificius, 89, of Capac went to be with the Lord while surrounded by family on Monday, June 24, 2019.
She was born April 7, 1930 in Detroit to the late Martha (Young) Sproul and Andrew Sproul.
Her marriage of 38 years to Irving (Bud) Opificius was November 26, 1949. Irving died November 21, 1987.
In addition to raising her family and working on the family farm, Grace worked at Dr. Conrad’s office, Dr. Renshaw’s office, and Hamill manufacturing. She enjoyed working with children and was a classroom aide for Capac and Yale Elementary Schools. Grace thoroughly enjoyed reading and studying her Bible. She attended Community Gospel Chapel in Emmett and taught Sunday School there for many years until it closed in the 1980s. She most recently attended Trinity Missionary Church of Yale, and Cole United Methodist Church, Brockway Twp.
Surviving are her daughter, Susanne (Jerome) Smith of Emmett; son, Gerald (Lori) of Capac; six grandsons, Timothy and Daniel (Kendall) Smith, Michael (Amanda), Matthew, Jeffrey and Joel Opificius; and several nieces and nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by stepmother, Helen Sproul; brother, Donald (Shirley) Sproul; and two sisters, Ramona (Henry) Morawski and Phyllis Sproul.
The family honors the memory of Leona and invites you to visit and share memories Thursday, June 27, 2019, from 4-8 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday with 10 a.m. visiting. Burial will be in Capac Cemetery, Mussey Twp.
Memorials are suggested to Cole United Methodist Church or Trinity Missionary Church.
