Burley Gillette, 80 years old, from Columbiaville, MI, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, NC, with his family at his side.
Burley was born February 10, 1939 in Pontiac MI. He was the son of Otis Gillette and Margaret Faye Gillette. Burley grew up in Rose City and Pontiac, MI. He lived most of his life in Michigan. In the 1960-70s, Burley moved to the Barnes Lake area.
He worked for General Motors for over 40 years at various locations. Burley’s last working years with GM were spent at the Lake Orion plant. He loved going to work with his fellow workers. Burley was extremely passionate about General Motors, his co-workers, and the UAW. He said there was nothing better then the camaraderie of the workers at the plant. Burley spent much of his retirement hunting, spending time with family and friends, and playing cards.
Burley is survived by two daughters, Darsey (Rickey) Rollin and Jody (Randy) Smith; his son, Otis Gillette; his four grandchildren, Aquilla Rollin, Belinda Bentley, Andrew Scott Smith, and Samantha Lynn Smith; his great-grandchildren, Austin Rollin, Connor Rollin, Jaxon Rollin, Annabella Hill, Caleb Cobble and Branycon Cobble; six nieces; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Margaret Gillette; his brother, Otis Gillette Jr.; and his sister, JoAnn Hill.
The funeral service was held Monday, July 1, 2019 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI. Interment followed at Imlay Township Cemetery, where he was buried next to his brother and sister.
Funeral arrangements were made by Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City.
