Manko shoots a 75, Rayl cards 79 to secure win

TRI-CITY AREA— Thomas Manko shot a 75 and Jacob Rayl carded a 79, leading the Almont boys’ golf team to a second-place finish last Thursday at the Blue Water Area Conference League Tournament.

Solitude Golf Links, in Wadhams, served as the tournament venue.

Yale won tournament honors, thanks to a 317 total. They were followed by Almont (328), North Branch (340), Richmond (354), Armada (356) and Imlay City (356).

Cros-Lex also participated but did not field a complete team.

Jack Jellison and Seth VanHoutte rounded out Almont’s top-four golfers. They finished with 87s.

Garrett Roberts led Imlay City with a 93. The Spartans also counted Mitch Allen’s 94, Andy Hintz’s 102 and Quintin Zinger’s 106.

Final BWAC Standings- 1) Almont, 60 points; 2) Yale, 57; 3) North Branch, 44; 4) Richmond, 35; 5) Armada, 25; 6) Imlay City, 19 points; and 7) Cros-Lex, 11.

All-BWAC team- 1) Owen Flaherty, Cros-Lex, 87 points; 2) Yale’s Pat Donnellon and North Branch’s Ian Conley, 80 each; 4) Thomas Manko, Almont; 70; 5) Jacob Rayl, 68; 6) Jack Jellison, Almont, 61; 7) Jake Craig, Yale, 57; and 8) Owen Kosal, 50.
