Anahuac Tony Noriega, 75, of Imlay City, MI died Sunday, May 19, 2019 at McLaren – Flint Region Hospital. Tony was born July 12, 1943 in Venado, San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He was the first born child of Angel and Emma (Morales) Noriega. He emigrated to the United States in 1963. Shortly thereafter, Tony met Rebecca “Becky” Eckel. Four months later, they were married on April 11, 1964 in Dearborn, MI.
Tony began his lifetime work at General Motors in Grand Blanc, MI in 1965. He was very active in his community, serving on the Board for Imlay City Hispanic Services Center, volunteering for the Imlay City Ambulance Service, serving as a Cub Scout Leader, acting as a Lieutenant of the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Reserves, and as a co-owner of the Imlay City Fitness Center in downtown Imlay City.
On July 11, 1972, Tony became a naturalized citizen of the United States knowing that this was his home as well as a place for limitless opportunities for all.
While working at General Motors, Tony was active in the North-End Soup Kitchen in Flint, the Old News Boys Organization, and the United Way. In recognition of his outstanding service for the betterment of the community, General Motors presented Tony with an Award for Excellence in Community Activities. After 40 years, missing only three days of work, Tony retired from General Motors.
After retirement, Tony enjoyed spending time with his family and was always helping teach life lessons to his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with, loving and doting on his beloved wife.
Tony is survived by his wife, Rebecca Noriega; daughters, Raquel Noriega of El Paso, TX and Cristal (Andrew) Metz of Imlay City; his son, Tony (Camille) Noriega of San Angelo, TX; grandchildren, Haleigh Parrish of Imlay City and Reese Heslep of Burton; step-grandchildren, Amber and Chandler Gonzales; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Heslep. Also surviving are sisters, Maria del Carmen (Efren) Diaz, Xochitl (Rigo) Ramirez, and Gabi (Sabino) Herrera; and brothers, Juan Noriega, Miguel Angel (Patrocinia) Noriega, Benito Juarez (Peba) Noriega, Lincoln (Arlet) Noriega, Engels (Madela Cruz) Noriega, and Angel (Silvia) Noriega.
Tony was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Kay Noriega (1967); parents, Angel and Emma Noriega (1981); sisters, Emma Noriega and Anita Noriega; and infant sister, Guadalupe Noriega.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City. Reverend Alan Casillas, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Imlay City will officiate.
The family will be available for visiting from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon Saturday at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI.
