Robert Richards, age 88, of Almont, MI died Friday, May 10, 2019 at Hospice House of Shiawassee County in Owosso, MI. Robert William Richards was born August 7, 1930 in Houghton, MI. He was the son of the late Lyman and the late Gladys (Nicholls) Richards. Robert attended and graduated school in Houghton, MI. He went on to attend college in Pasadena, CA. Robert earned his Degree of Ministry. He married Glenna Juanita Miller on May 8, 1954 in Genesee, MI. They have lived in various states; Ohio, Florida, California, Kentucky; and in 1997 moved to Almont, MI. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1952 – 1954. Robert was employed by Worldwide Church of God as a minister. He had worked as a printer for the Flint Journal and the Lapeer County Press. He enjoyed attending Navy Reunions of the former Seaman who served on the U.S.S. Iowa. Robert and Glenna also were craft vendors while in Florida.
Robert is survived by his wife, Glenna Richards; two daughters, Gayle (Donald) Nelson of Attica, MI and Gloria (Kevin) Lee of Perry, MI; his two sons, Grant (Tina) Richards of North Carolina and Gary (JoAnne) Richards of Imlay City, MI; and his brother, Russell (Harriet) Richards of Clearmont, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman and Gladys Richards; and his grandson, Jason Nelson.
Cremation has taken place.
A Veteran’s Salute and burial of cremated remains will take place Friday, August 2, 2019 at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. A Celebration of Life is being planned for Saturday, August 3rd.
