Pioneers get the best of both in BWAC clashes

TRI-CITY AREA — The Almont boys’ track went 1-1 in a pair of Blue Water Area Conference duals Thursday at Cros-Lex High School, picking up a 74-63 victory over Imlay City and falling 101-36 to the hosts.
Nathan Engel, high jump, 5 feet 9 inches; Robbie Battani, pole vault (12 feet) plus the 110 (16.22 seconds) and 300-meter (44.48 seconds) hurdles; Seth Helfer, long jump, 18 feet 10 inches; and Luke Owens, 800 run, 2:23.49; led Almont with individual event wins versus Imlay City.
The Amont 3200-meter relay of Dallas Stanton, Lucas Webster, Trent Ligon and Owens also prevailed. They stopped the watch at 9:34.38.
Austin DeRocher, shot put, 41 feet; Ryan Johnson, discus, 132 feet 10 inches; Breydon Andrez, 100 (11.31 seconds) and 400 (53.41 seconds); and Riley Bertram, 200-meter dash, 24.22 seconds; secured Imlay City’s individual event firsts.
The Imlay City 400 (Raymond Liu, James Ruolo, Lonnie Wolford and Bertram), 800 (Liu, Andrez, Wolford and Bertram and 1600 Zavier Logan, Liu, Bertram and Andrez) relays also emerged victorious. They logged respective clockings of 46.96 seconds, 1:35.98 and 3:46.49 en route.
Engel (high jump), Battani (pole vault), Helfer (long jump) and Jackson Malcolm (discus) collected Almont’s individual event wins against Cros-Lex.
In the day’s other dual, Imlay City dropped a 92-45 verdict to Cros-Lex.
