Melvin “Mel” Wedlake, age 79, of Attica, MI died Sunday, April 21, 2019 at McLaren Flint Region Medical Center in Flint, MI. Melvin Wedlake was born May 25, 1939 in Hazel Park, MI. He was the son of the late Melvin and the late Blanche (Slingerland) Wedlake. Mel grew up in the Imlay City area. He was a graduate of Imlay City High School, Class of 1959.
He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1959 – 1963. Melvin married Madeline Marie Green on September 28, 1963 in Imlay City, MI.
Mel was employed as a hi-lo driver and press operator for General Motors in Pontiac for 30 years before retiring.
He was a member of the Imlay City VFW, Imlay City American Legion and the Imlay City Eagles.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Madeline Wedlake; one daughter, Melissa (Bill) Conner of North Branch, MI; three sons, Duane (Sherry) Wedlake of Imlay City, MI, Phillip Wedlake of Attica, MI and Daniel (Jesse) Wedlake of Brown City, MI; one sister, Blanche London of Capac, MI; his stepbrother, Kenneth McKenzie of Gaylord, MI; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Florence Chrivia; and his brother-in-law, Willy London.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside memorial service is being planned at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
