Donald D. Karinen, age 57, of Attica, MI died Friday, April 5, 2019 at United Hospice Residence of Marlette, MI. Donald Darwin Karinen was born August 18, 1961 in Detroit, MI. He was the son of the late Alvin Edward and JoAnn Evelyn (Roedel) Karinen. The Karinen family moved to the Imlay City area in 1970. He grew up in the Imlay City area. Donald was a graduate of Imlay City High School, Class of 1979. Donald participated in 4-H during high school; he raised chickens and pigs to show for 4-H at the Eastern Michigan State Fair in Imlay City. He had raised the Grand Champion Pig on two different years. He studied at Mott Community College in Flint for two years for his HVAC Certification.

Donald has worked as a CNC (Computer Numeric Control) Operator at Spring Dynamics in Almont; he also worked as a CNC Operator at MC Aerospace in Lake Orion. Don liked to hunt and fish. He built a house with his father; he was very mechanically talented.

He is survived by one daughter, Heather Kelley of Imlay City, MI; his mother, JoAnn Evelyn (Roedel) Karinen; brothers, Jon (Kim) Karinen of Attica, MI and Mike Karinen of Imlay City, MI. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Faith Kelley, Grace Kelley, and Nevaeh Smallstick.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Karinen in 2006; and by his grandparents.

The memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI.

The family will be available for visiting from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City.
