Trace Elling, age 92, of Attica, MI died Friday, March 29, 2019 at Villages of Lapeer. Trace Elling was born July 29, 1926 in Imlay City, MI. She was the daughter of the late Heine and the late Wemelina (Prime) Ettema. She attended Imlay City High School. Trace worked on the family farm until she married her husband Garrett.
Trace and Garrett Elling married on May 27, 1944 in Imlay City, Michigan. They started their own farm on Wheeling Rd. where they raised their family and lived most of their lives. Trace worked for 14 years at Almont Community Hospital as a nurse’s aide. She loved to garden and always had beautiful flowers to cut for her family. Trace was a master seamstress and quilt maker, she also was very good at knitting and crocheting. She was a long time member of the Imlay City Christian Reformed Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garrett Elling, on August 19, 2000.
She is survived by four sons, Thomas (Connie) Elling of Imlay City, MI, Michael (Margie) Elling of Lapeer, MI, Gary (Patricia) Elling of Imlay City, MI and Bradley (Robin) Elling of Lapeer, MI; one brother, Gerrit Ettema of TX; and a daughter-in-law, Lora Elling. Trace was preceded in death by her husband, Garrett; her son, Daniel; four sisters, Effie (Andrew) Laarman, Christine (Everett) Vander Ark, Minnie (John) Van Soest, and Hattie (Neil) Prince; four brothers, Jan Ettema, Bill (Wilma) Ettema, Henry (Doris) Ettema and Bernard (Elaine) Ettema.
The funeral services were held Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Imlay City Christian Reformed Church, 395 Cedar St., Imlay City, MI. Officiating was Reverend Alex Snider, pastor of the Imlay City Christian Reformed Church. Burial followed in Goodland Township Cemetery, Imlay City.
