James R. Stroup, 82, of Almont, passed away Friday, March 22, 2019. He was born July 15, 1936 in Capac, the son of William and Catherine (McLaren) Stroup. He attended Rets Electronic Trade School in Detroit and worked as an engineer in aerospace and defense for Chrysler Corp, LTD and General Dynamics. He married Delores Walker in Capac in 1953. Jim was a member of the Almont Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #51 and attended the Almont First Baptist Church. He enjoyed bicycling, puzzles, golfing, hunting and fishing, spending time with family and friends and was a world traveler.
He is survived by his wife, Delores; his children, Gail Spinella of Armada, Kryn (Jim) Zacharski of Almont, Richard (Deborah) Stroup of Almont and Timothy (Amy) Stroup of Lima, OH; grandchildren, Amy Spinella, Joseph Spinella, Katherine Spinella, Joshua (Suzy Lemanski) Zacharski, Jessica (John Black) Zacharski, David (Emily) Stroup, Thomas (Hanna) Stroup, Michael Stroup, Sarah Stroup, Daniel (Coral) Stroup and Mitchell Stroup; great-grandchildren, Riley, Zoltan, Imoen, Matthias, Hosea, Simeon and Anne; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Jean Dawe, Betty Stroup, Bill Stroup and Bob Stroup.

A Masonic Service was held Tuesday, March 26 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Almont.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Almont with Pastor Wayne Boyd officiating. Burial will follow.
