Team offers blend of experience and youth for 2018-19
TRI-CITY AREA — From start to finish, these athletes excelled with their court play.
Here is a look at who earned a spot on the 2018-19 edition of The Tri-City Times All-Area girls’ basketball team and the numbers they generated along the way:
Hannah Peyerk, Dryden.
Peyerk netted 256 points over 20 regular season games, an average of 12.8 per contest, during the 2018-19 campaign.
That placed her first on the Dryden squad and among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.

The 5-7 junior guard also grabbed 63 rebounds, handed off 55 assists and registered 41 steals.
It was her third year on Dryden’s varsity.
Peyerk concluded the 2018-19 campaign as an All-North Central Thumb League Stars Division first team choice.
Mary Lengemann, Imlay City.
Lengemann netted 276 points in 23 contests, an average of 12.0 points per game, this winter.
That ranked her first on the Imlay City squad and second among those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.
The 5-10 freshman guard also pulled down 117 rebounds, collected 46 steals and handed off 38 assists.
Lengemann ended her initial season at the varsity level as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team choice.
Kayla Louwsma, Imlay City.
Louwsma collected 196 points in 22 contests, an average of 8.9 per game, this winter.
That placed her second on the Imlay City squad and third among those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.
The 5-9 senior guard also pulled down 110 rebounds, registered 96 steals and handed off 40 assists.
It was her third year on Imlay City’s varsity.
Louwsma finished the 2018-19 campaign as an All-Blue Water Area Conference first team pick.
Shelby Husovsky, Capac.
Husovsky produced 151 points over 17 games, an average of 8.8 per contest, during the 2018-19 campaign.
That placed her first on the Capac squad and fourth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.
It was her fourth year on Capac’s varsity.
Husovsky ended the 2018-19 campaign as an All-Greater Thumb Conference East honorable mention selection.
Aubree Smith, Capac.
Smith managed 168 points over 20 games, an average of 8.4 per contest, during the 2018-19 campaign.
That placed her second on the Capac squad and fifth among Tri-City Times All-Area first team honorees.
It was her third year on Capac’s varsity.
Smith concluded the 2018-19 campaign as an All-Greater Thumb Conference East honorable mention choice.
Jordan Peters, Dryden.
Peters accumulated 135 points in 20 regular season contests, an average of 6.8 per game, this winter.
That placed her second on the Dryden squad and sixth among those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.
The 5-5 senior forward also provided Dryden with 48 rebounds, 42 assists and 27 steals.
It was her third year on Dryden’s varsity.
Ella Kage, Dryden.
Kage had 96 points in 20 regular season contests, an average of 4.8 per game, this winter.
That placed her fifth on the Dryden squad and seventh among those who attained Tri-City Times All-Area first team status.
The 5-3 sophomore guard also registered 94 steals, handed off 90 assists and pulled down 76 rebounds.
It was her second year on Dryden’s varsity.
She ended the season as an All-North Central Thumb League Stars Division second team selection.
Second team- Kayla Rossen, Imlay City; Brandi Kautz, Almont; Grace Johnson, Almont; McKennah Hopkins, Capac; Hannah Revoldt, Almont; Jona Mullin, Capac; and Ally Sobek, Dryden.
Honorable mention- Emma Waatti, Imlay City; Natalie Maday, Capac; Natalie Poirier, Dryden; and Kelli Schenkel, Dryden.
Coach of the Year- Dryden Coach Mark Newell, who directed his team to a 16-5 overall mark and a 10-4 showing in NCTL Stars Division clashes, claims Tri-City Times All-Area Coach of the Year accolades.
He shares that honor with Imlay City Coach Heather Lauwers. She directed the Spartans to second at a Division 2 district, second in the Blue Water Area Conference with an 11-3 record and a 15-8 overall mark.
Kevin Kissane has been covering high school sports for the Tri-City Times since 1985. When not standing on a field or court with his camera and notepad, he enjoys golf, travel and family. Kevin is a 1980 graduate of Capac High School, and is also a grad of St. Clair Community College and earned a degree in journalism from Central Michigan University.
