ALMONT — The Almont varsity boys’ basketball team downed visiting Yale, 48-41, in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity boys’ basketball meeting last Friday night.
With the outcome, Almont improves to 11-5 and 8-3. Yale slips to 12-5 and 7-5
In Friday’s meeting, Almont bolted out to a 14-6 advantage after one quarter was done.
Quarter two saw Almont net 12 points and Yale generate seven, good for a 26-13 lead at the halftime break.
When play resumed, Almont managed five third quarter points as did Yale. That left them with a 31-18 advantage with 24 minutes gone.
Almont then withstood a 23-17 fourth quarter rally to leave with a 48-41 win to their credit.
For Almont, Austin Watt led the way with 11 points. He drained a triple along the way.
Eight other Almont players reached the scoring column. Their ranks consisted of Cameron Asaro (eight points, including a pair of trifectas), Atte Vuoristo (seven, featuring a trey), Rafael Farias (seven), Gabe Bourdeau (four, with a triple), Brett Wrobel (four), Colby Schapman (three) along with Mike Rinke and Joey Savel (two each).
