Joseph Elwart, age 76, recently of Imlay City, (formerly of Attica Twp.) Michigan died Sunday, February 3, 2019 at home. Joseph Clement Elwart was born November 2, 1942 in Detroit, MI. He was the son of the late Frank and the late Elizabeth (Goike) Elwart. Joseph grew up in Attica and Goodland Townships. He was a graduate of Dryden High School, Class of 1961.
He was employed as a carpenter by Michigan Timber and Truss in Troy, MI building trusses.
Joseph was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Imlay City Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He is survived by his sister, Nancy Meyette of Romeo, MI; one brother, James (Mary) Elwart of Imlay City, MI; his nephews and niece, James Elwart, Philip Meyette, Steven Elwart, and Nannette Meyette; his great-nephew, Alexander; and his great-nieces, Brooklyn and Elizabeth.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elizabeth Elwart.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, February 8, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 700 Maple Vista, Imlay City, MI. Father John “Doc” Ortman will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
The family will be available for visitation 2-5 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, February 7 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI and 9-10 a.m., Friday, February 8 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
