CAPAC — Joe Montney hit a pair of free throw attempts with 10.2 seconds remaining, lifting visiting Capac to a 45-43 victory over Memphis in a Greater Thumb Conference East varsity boys’ basketball battle last Wednesday night.

With the result, Capac moves to 7-5 and 4-1.

In Wednesday’s battle, Capac spotted Memphis an 11-6 advantage after one quarter was over with.

Quarter two would see Capac bounce back. It was there the Chiefs netted 14 points and Memphis generated eight, leaving the former up 20-19 at the halftime break.

When play resumed, Capac picked up where it left off. Thanks to a 13-10 third quarter edge, the Chiefs forged a 33-29 lead with 24 minutes gone.

Capac then withstood a 14-12 fourth quarter rally, good for a 45-43 triumph at night’s end.

Trevor Boers led Capac with a 17-point performance, including a pair of trifectas. The Chiefs also had Joe Montney (12 points, featuring a trey), Jordan Hellmuth and Jakob Sawyers (six each) along with Casey Bollaert (four).

Boers (20) and Montney (seven) furnished the top Capac rebound totals.

Capac also received 10 blocked shots from Boers.
