Raiders knock off BWAC foe, handing Blue Devils first loss of the season

ALMONT — Almont knocked off previously unbeaten Richmond, 76-58, in a Blue Water Area Conference varsity boys’ basketball game it hosted last Friday night.

With the final, Almont goes to 8-3 and 5-2. Richmond slips to 11-1 and 6-1.

In Friday’s game, Almont took a 14-13 edge after one quarter was done and widened the gap to 29-24 at the halftime break.

When the action resumed, Almont padded their cushion some. Thanks to a 19-15 third quarter edge, the Raiders forged a 48-39 lead with 24 minutes gone.

Almont then outscored Richmond 28-19 the rest of the way, putting the finishing touches on a 76-58 win.

Austin Watt (22 points, including a pair of trifectas) Atte Vuoristo (18, featuring a pair of treys), Rafael Farias (11, with a pair of triples) and Colby Schapman (10) led Almont with double figure outputs. They were backed by Gabe Bourdeau (seven points, including a trifecta), Cameron Asaro (four, featuring a trey), Brett Wrobel (three) and Mike Rinke (one).
