Chlora Proctor Avery, age 72, of Almont, MI, died Monday, January 14, 2019 at William Beaumont Hospital -Troy.
Chlora Sue Proctor was born February 18, 1946 in Caruthersville, MO. She is the daughter of the late Lewis and the late Lamon (Butler) Proctor. Chlora grew up in Caruthersville, MO. She was a graduate of Caruthersville High School, Class of 1964. Chlora married Philip George Avery on July 20, 1974 in Memphis, TN. Philip and Chlora lived in Michigan for the past 33 years. In 1986 they moved near Selfridge National Air Force Base before moving to the Imlay City area in 1997. Chlora was preceded in death by her husband, Philip, on January 24, 2007.
She was employed as a customer service representative by Scott’s Hyponex (formerly Anderson Peat) in Imlay City for 21 years.
Chlora was a member of the American Paso Fino Horse Association.
She is survived by three daughters, Deborah (David) Hampton of Imlay City, MI, Lisa Gildon of Lumber Bridge, NC and Karen (David) Arthur of Tarpon Springs, FL; one son, Lee (Rose) Canon of Oswego, IL; two brothers, Gary (Hope) Proctor of Mt. Juliet, TN and Chester (Ron Cash) Proctor of Flint, MI; nine grandchildren, Philip (Moriah) Hampton, Melissa (Dakota) Barrow, Corbin Canon, Elizabeth Hampton, Travis Arthur, Allison Arthur, Alexis Canon, Megan Patterson and Wesley Hampton; and her two great-grandchildren, Levi Barrow and Josephine Barrow.
Chlora was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Avery; son, Philip George Avery, Jr.; her parents, Lewis and Lamon Proctor; a brother, Lewis Proctor; and her three sisters, Bernice Proctor, Ernestine Birch and Dorothy Hill.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, January 18, 2019 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Pastor Thomas Blount, with Heritage Church, will officiate. Interment will be beside Philip at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
The family will be available for visitation 3-5 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, January 17 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI.
