Robert “Bob” Messner, age 66, of Lum, MI died Sunday, January 6, 2019 at his home. Robert Charles Messner was born November 13, 1952 in Detroit, MI. He was the son of the late Marvin and the late Elaine (Winter) Messner. Bob grew up in Harper Woods. He was a graduate of Grosse Pointe North High School – Class of 1970. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married Roxann Jean Messner on July 30, 1977 in Mt. Clemens, MI. They lived in Almont for 16 years before moving to the Lum area in the mid 1990s.
Bob was employed by Ford Motor Company – Tractor Plant / Engine Plant as a machinist, welder and quality control inspector over 34 years, before retiring in 2007. He was a member of the Mustang Club of America and loved to drive his Mustang. He was quite the grill master; loved to boat in Lake St. Clair and ride his motorcycle. He took his Mustang to a lot of car shows. He enjoyed spending time with his golden retrievers and the visiting cow.
Bob is survived by his wife, Roxann Messner of Lum, MI; one daughter, Melissa Messner of Belleville, MI; one son, Michael (Lauren) Messner of Macomb Twp., MI; his brother, Edward (Carol) Messner of Englewood, FL; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Marcus; his father-in-law, Carl (Lois) Meier of Metamora, MI; stepmother, Mildred Messner of Englewood, FL; two brothers-in-law, Art Meier and Paul Meier; and his three sisters-in-law, Corinne Poppeck, Lori Hodges and Susan Fish.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Elaine Messner; his mother-in-law, Helen Meier; two brothers, James Messner and David Messner; his brothers-in-law, Bill Poppeck and Ken Hodges; and his niece, Kacy Hodges.
Cremation has taken place. A family Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date.
Arrangements were entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home of Imlay City, 225 N. Main Street, Imlay City, MI.
