Five Spartan wrestlers go undefeated in dual meet tourney

IMLAY CITY — The Imlay City wrestling team went 2-3 en route a fourth-place finish last Friday at the Canton Tournament.

Imlay City opened their five-match stint with a 54-12 win against an All-Star team comprised of grapplers hailing from several different schools. That was followed by a 42-40 loss to Gibralter Carlson; a 52-18 victory over North Farmington; a 47-30 setback to Clinton; and a 36-34 loss to Dearborn.

Mason Phillips (119/125), Wesley Hampton (135/140), Hunter Mullins (171) and Joe Harper (285) led Imlay City that day. Each posted 5-0 marks in their respective weight classes.

Dakota Sandzik went unbeaten for Imlay City as well. Sandzik wound up 4-0 overall, splitting his time between the 112 and 119-pound weight classes.

Isaac Schmitz (152) and Ricky Guerrero (160) added 3-2 marks to Imlay City’s cause.
