ALMONT — Almont wound up four points short when the final scores were tallied, incurring a 44-40 setback to Marysville’s varsity basketball team at the SC4 Holiday Basketball Showcase in Port Huron last Friday evening.

With the decision, Almont now stands at 5-2 overall.

In Friday’s matchup, Almont grabbed an 8-7 edge after one quarter was done.

Marysville then bounced back with an 11-7 second quarter advantage, good for an 18-15 lead at the halftime break.

The third quarter would see Marysville amass 14 points as did Almont. That made it a 32-29 ball game with 24 minutes gone.

Marysville then outscored Almont 12-11 the rest of the way, leaving the floor with a 44-40 triumph to their credit.

Austin Watt (15 points, including three trifectas) topped Almont’s scoring attack. He was backed by Atte Vuoristo (seven points, featuring a trey), Colby Schapman (six), Cameron Asaro (five, with a triple), Rafael Farias (four) and Gabe Bourdeau (a trifecta).
